Beef steak pie. Pull apart steaks, mushrooms, crunchy7/24/2021, 9:04:32 AM
Beef steak pie. Pull apart steaks, mushrooms, crunchy pastry. Winter soul food. 4-5 chuck steaks. Plain flour for dusting. Olive oil. 1 chopped onion. 2 - 3 cloves grated garlic. 3 cups vegetable or beef stock. 1/4 cup Worcestershire sauce. 500g mushrooms. 2 sliced carrots. 2 cups frozen peas @ainosvegetables . 2 bay leaves. Filo Pastry @antonioufillopastry . Salt and pepper to taste. Black and white sesame. Begin by placing a pot over medium high heat & add a drizzle of olive oil. Season the steaks coating them in the flour on each side then brown them in the pot. Place aside. In the same pot, add another drizzle of olive oil & sauté the onion & garlic, add the stock the place the the meat back in & season. If your pot is oven proof, place the lid on top & allow it to cook in the oven for 1 hour at 180c or so until the meat is tender. If the pot you’re using is not oven proof, turn the heat down to medium & allow the meat to simmer with the lid on for the same amount of time, checking on it occasionally incase you need to add water during this process. Once the meat is tender, remove it & place it in a bowl to the side (there should be some liquid in the pot) add the mushrooms, carrots, Worcestershire sauce, bay leaves & cook until the carrots are tender (the mushrooms will release liquid but you have to gauge whether you should be adding more, the flour you coated the meat with will thicken the liquid toward the end). Cut or pull the steaks apart into chunks & place them back into the pot. Taste & adjust your seasoning & continue to simmer until the sauce thickens (be gentle when stirring incase the meat starts pulling apart too much). Turn the heat off, & stir in the peas. Transfer the mixture into a large tray & prepare your filo. Add approximately 10 sheets of filo over the mixture, lightly brushing with oil between each one. Roll in all the over hanging pieces to create a boarder & brush once more with oil. Sprinkle with sesame and bake at 170c on the bottom rack in your oven until golden brown. Placing the tray at the bottom allows the filo layers to cook slowly all the way through. Serve immediately and enjoy! @marys _kouzina .
